Artificial Grass is a surface of synthetic fibres that first gained attention in the early 1960’s. The earliest recorded installation of Artificial Grass was used on a prep school recreation area in America. The material first came to public prominence in 1966 when ‘AstroTurf’ was installed in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. Since then, ‘AstroTurf’ is now mostly obsolete having been replaced with the newer generations of modern turfs. The most recent third generation grass, which is most widely used today, offer infills that are mixtures of sand and granules of rubber.
Artificial Grass or Artificial turf is most often used in arenas for sports that are normally played on grass such as American Football, Baseball, Golf etc. However, it is now being used for residential and commercial properties due to its reduced cost of maintenance and care compared to natural grass.
This trend has also been driven by the dramatic improvement in quality and variety of available synthetic and artificial grasses, the solution offered by Consumer Grass is made of a bi-coloured Polyethylene monofilament yarn. Compared to Polypropylene fibres, Polyethylene fibres are not only softer and more pleasant to touch, they are also more resistant thanks to their flexibility. Polyethylene is extremely UV-resistant and will not be affected by fluctuations in temperature.
